International Women's Day
To mark International Women's Day 2008, the Australian Government chose for its theme 100 years of shaping progress for women; and building a brighter future for all.
One of the events staged on this day was a panel featuring five prominent Australian women discussing the topic, Working women 100 years on: where have we been; where are we now; and, where are we going?
The panel membership included Dr Marian Baird, Associate Professor in Work and Organisational Studies at the University of Sydney, Convenor of the Women and Work Research Group in the Faculty of Economics and Business; and Sharan Burrow, President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, President of International Centre for Trade Union Rights.
Geraldine Doogue AO, renowned Australian journalist and broadcaster, was also on the panel; along with Professor Barbara Pocock, inaugural Director of the Centre for Work and Life, researcher, academic, political adviser, and author; and Dr Dale Spender AM, author, feminist and educator.
